Do you have a kinky community?

30 Days of D/s by Loving BDSM and Kayla Lords

We live in the Pacific Northwest.

It rains here. A lot.

If I could run around in pink boots and carry a cute, little pink umbrella, and play in the rain all day, I think I would like it.

In reality, I feel more like this…

… so we are considering moving to Southern California. YAY!

We have two primary goals.
1)
To get more sunlight. Here, it is always cloudy, always overcast. From mid-June to September, it is beautiful all the time. I love the summers, but it is also our primary travel time. We go to the desert quite frequently during this time. I love the desert. I feel alive in the desert. Taos, New Mexico is one of my favorite places in the world. I love the heat. 120 degrees doesn’t scare me, and I most comfortable around 100, not around 75, like most people. I naturally run cold (perhaps, in part, because my thyroid sucks). I come alive in the summer, and in the heat. As my sister says, “[I] wear summer well!”
2) To not let our expendable income drop. The tricky thing about teaching is that pay isn’t a guarantee. Some states, especially New Mexico, don’t treat teachers so well. I would move there, teach there, and buy a house there in a flash. But financially speaking, our combined incomes would be equivalent to my single income here. That can’t happen.

I have one other secret goal. Shhhh…

I want a kinky community. There are some things here we could take advantage of, but it is risky. And Mr.R isn’t interested in that risk. Our community is small. Running into someone that would out us, or that we know professionally (students, former students, parents of students…) – Holy Crap! That would be very unsettling indeed.

However, in a bigger city anonymity is easier to acquire. Driving to a neighboring town is easier. There are more events, more ‘circles’ if you will. I’d like to chat, and talk, and hang out. To be myself.

  1. Having access to some friends with similar ideas would be fun but i do understand your worry about being found out. If i had a different job i would be less worried too but when you add kids to the mix it seems to change the perspective some!

  2. I am the opposite to you I am hot blooded and I hate the heat so I moved to a part of America that has a lot more cold. It still has it’s share of heat but not as bad as Australian, I have found the USA doesn’t have have such searing heat. I didn’t come here to just be cooler I also came to be with my darling S. Where we live we have found a few groups in Grand Rapids that we can visit with. We know they exist because we see them advertised in Fetlife. They have events and munches. Though we have not participated in any of them we hope to soon. It is a big step for me to make. ❤

    1. We haven’t made it to a munch or anything else, either. There are a couple here advertised on fetlife, also. We could probably also drive an hour or so, and get to some others. It’s a big step.
It’s funny how people either run hot or cold. I met a woman who moved right onto the coast so she could be cooler, while we are trying to get out of it.

  3. I lived in Southern CA for a time and there is access to a wider community, but then people tend to branch off into smaller communities when they click and that kind of mimics smaller communities if that makes sense.
